The bedroom should be the one place in the home that is calming and tranquil. Whether a person lives alone or with family or friends, the bedroom is a personal and private space. How it is decorated not only affects your frame of mind, it can also affect your sleeping habits. Here are some steps that you can take to transform your bedroom into a sanctuary, somewhere you can escape and relax.
REMOVE ALL CLUTTER
Clutter causes stress to anyone who views it. A cluttered bedroom is not a place you want to spend a lot of time in. Get rid of unused clothing, shoes, and accessories. Also, clean your room daily, and place your dirty clothes in a hamper or basket in another room if possible. Make sure that your dresser and any table tops are neat and orderly.
DECORATE USING YOUR FAVORITE COLORS
Nothing is more soothing than seeing a room done in your favorite colors. You don't have to spend a great deal of money to decorate your bedroom in your favorite colors. You can find bargains on bedspreads, curtains, and other items in discount stores. Something as simple as hanging a pair of curtains in your favorite shade or painting the walls can change the entire atmosphere of the room. However, what may be a calming color for one person may not be for another, so choose your colors based on what you want, and not on what some may say are "soothing colors." For instance, some consider the colors blue and green to be soothing and tranquil, while others may think that they are dull and listless. As long as you don't choose harsh tones, you really can't go wrong with color when you choose what pleases you.
ADD RELAXING ELEMENTS
Do you enjoy fragrant candles? Do you love curling up with a good book in a comfy chair? Add these elements to your bedroom so that you can enjoy them. If you can't afford a chair or do not have the space, try adding large throw pillows in a corner or area of your bedroom. You can also add a lamp with soft lighting so that you won't have a harsh glare of the overhead light. In addition, play soft music to create a calming mood, such as nature sounds. You can even add a small waterfall or rock garden.
DON'T BRING YOUR WORK INTO THE BEDROOM
Any work or projects that you need to finish should be completed in another room. When you bring your work or projects into the bedroom, you will associate that room with work. Just as the kitchen is the designated area of your home for cooking, your bedroom should be the designated area for relaxation.
When you hear the term sanctuary, you think of a place that is peaceful and calm. Follow these simple guidelines that are listed to redecorate your bedroom so that it is an oasis of peace and tranquility. Have fun, and when you are finished, enjoy your new space.
