the film"Australia," starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. Advertised in travel brochures as at the top of the Whitsunday Island group, this place is not fancy like Noosa Heads or Port Douglas or Byron Bay with all the accompanying expense, but rather a mix of people from Vanuatu, some aboriginals and the rest down to earth Aussies. This is primarily a fruit growing district being famous for the quality of it's mangoes and many types of vegetables. Nearby at Point Abbot there is a large sea terminal for ships to take coal overseas as there are huge deposits in the hills there. In the nearby Whitsunday Islands there is Whitehaven Beach one of the most scenic beaches in Australia.

So we've been on a trip up through the centre and out to the coast but let me conclude this article with what else Australia is to the visitor from afar.

Australia is a land of Snowy Mountains in it's south-east corner and has played host to international skiing competitions from time to time.

Australia is a land of tropical rainforest equal to the Amazon in some areas like the Daintree Rainforest in far north Queensland.

Australia is the home of the longest fence in the world , the dingo fence running some 3000 kms through three states.

Australia is the ancient home of the world's oldest living civilization, the Australian aborigines, who have produced some of the world's most unique cave paintings.

Australia is the home of many of the world's best sporting talent. We have produced champion tennis players and boxers and cricketers and swimmers for many years all dominating the world stage.

Australia is land where a cattle station such as Curtin Springs in central Australia can cover one million acres, or the total area of Ireland.

Australia is a land where there are many of the world's deadliest creatures like the Fear snake and the King brown and the Sydney Funnel web spider and the box jelly fish and the great white shark and the saltwater crocodile. All can kill in less than five minutes.

Australia is a land of such expressions of mateship as, "She'll be right ," 'Ow ya goin bluey"and "Crikey," made popular by the late Steve Irwin all over the world and also the place where that famous film "Crocodile Dundee was made.

Australia is the home of the man who invented the black box for all the world's aircraft.

Oh I could go on and make a little song that goes like this,' I am an Aussie and this land is more than kangaroos and great beaches in fact it is bliss'.
