I just KNEW that eventually someone would climb in here with that old All Hallows bit.
Please, the Christian Church MOVED the holiday from May to November just to mess with the Pagans and the New Era Christians are still trying to do it now by spreading their propaganda in the media.
There was a concerted effort by the Christians to completely overrun any other faith, including, if necessary taking their holidays and making their God/desses Saints. I imagine there are quite a few of the Old Ones still hacked at the Demotion!
Halloween or Hallowe'en, a contraction of All-hallow-even, "All Hallows' Day". The holiday was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions, that is until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints' Day from May 13 to November 1. In the ninth century, the Church measured the day as starting at sunset, just like the Jewish holy days. We now consider All Saints' (or Hallows') day to be on the day after Halloween, they were, at that time, considered to be the same day.
Go have a look at the Real History of The Day, see where it has been trounced on by a Church that said Convert them, what ever the means. Go ask St Bridget if she'd rather be back in her old job as Goddess - oh, but wait, She still is Goddess I almost forgot, she didn't work for that firm to start with, they had no authority to pronounce a demotion.
