The key to transforming your bedroom from a typical room with a bed into a full-on sanctuary is to make sure that all of your senses are involved and indulged. To make the transformation, try using calming colors, incorporating soft fabrics throughout the room, and bringing elements of the tranquil outdoors inside. These simple moves will be a treat for your sight, hearing, feeling, and smell, plus these moves work great within any budget and can fit in perfectly with any decorating style.
The color of a room often dominates the mood of its occupants. If you use cool colors like blues, greens, and grays in your bedroom, it will bring a relaxing tone to the space. Consider painting all the walls in your bedroom with one of these calming colors, or pick one wall or particular section to paint as an accent wall. If painting the walls is out of the question, you can still incorporate blocks of these calming colors by hanging up artwork or draperies, adding a rug, or dressing your bed with a soothing pattern.
The fabrics you choose, beyond just bringing in colors and patterns that draw the eye, can also make the room feel luxurious and inviting. Who wouldn't want to spend time in their bedroom lounging against a comfy pillow or feeling a soft rug beneath their toes? As you pick out the bedding, drapes, pillows, and throws that will adorn your bedroom, look for opportunities to bring in soft, soothing fabrics that will truly make your room feel like a haven.
Another simple way to create a retreat in your bedroom is to bring in natural elements. Live plants, for example, will freshen up any room. A small fountain or other water feature is sure to help inspire relaxation. Try using other decor that features natural elements, from leaf and branch motifs to smooth, elegant rocks gathered around candles. You'll feel connected to the refreshing aspects of nature no matter how removed your home actually is.
By bringing in relaxing colors, fabrics, and natural touches, you're sure to feel indulged every time you set foot in your bedroom. You can also use soft lighting, scented candles or oils, and light music in your sanctuary. Try to keep the space clutter-free, and it will be easier for you to feel stress-free. Then you'll be able to soak in the calming atmosphere that you've created for yourself, using all of your senses - especially your own personal sense of style.
