Men are becoming more fashion conscious in this day and age of the metrosexual male. However, many still have a hard time putting themselves together for a job interview. This process can at times make you feel self-conscious and some, especially newly graduated college students, believe the look needed to win a job doesn't come cheap. On the contrary, the look needed to gain a nice impression on your interviewer or interviewers doesn't have to be difficult or expensive.
RULE#1 GROOMING: Being properly groomed is a must. NO ACCEPTIONS! Unless you are in the job market for becoming a bartender, bouncer, entertainer, or stripper then plan on grooming. Not saying there is anything wrong with the aforementioned careers, but those positions allow you to have a distinct look. Otherwise, the following are essential:
HAIRCUT: This doesn't have to be extreme, but clean up the back of the neck, around the ears and get rid of those long side burns.
SHAVE: Some companies may allow you to have some facial hair, but you don't work for the company yet. So until you do, shave that beard or goatee.
FINGERNAILS: Trim and Clean them. I know this sounds petty, but your hands are in constent view of the interviewers. If you have dirt and grime stuck in your nails this can be something the interviewer remembers, ESPECIALLY IF THE INTERVIEWER IS FEMALE.
ANTIPERSPERENT DEODERANT: Look, I may not need to tell you to wear this, but the anti-perspent part is a must. People get naturally nervous during interviews, which means you sweat. Trust me you will not be an exception. You don't want to smell at any point in time during the interview.
RULE#2 CLOTHING: This is where so many make mistakes. When interviewing for any job that you believe will be a career for you, WEAR A SUIT AND TIE.
SUIT: Some will tell you can wear a navy blue, black, gray, or brown suit. My advice would be if it is your first interview with the company wear a navy blue suit. For a second interview a brown or gray suit is appropriate. I would stay away from the black or tan suits for now. You are not going to a funeral and unless it is summer time a tan suit just doesn't work. The suit does not have to be expensive. Most suits look good if they are altered properly and you have the right shirt and tie. You can get a decent suit at Target and take it to a dry cleaner that does alterations so they can hem the pants and take in the jacket if needed for hardly any money. You can get a name brand suit and get a tailor, but be
