Christmas is one of the most wonderful and inspiring times of the year and "I believe" in Santa Claus. Since St Nicholas was a real man it only stands to reason that we should believe in him. All of my life I have believed in the idea of Santa Clause and feel that it is important that we continue this tradition with our children. Allow me a moment of your time and I will show you why Santa is a good idea and belief in him is paramount in maintaining the true spirit of this wonderful holiday season.

In order to properly make this argument one must return to the essence of this holiday season. Christmas is named so in honor of "Christ" or more literally "The Christ" The "Annointed One". It is historically accepted that when Mary and Joseph went to be taxed by Ceasar Augustus that it was in the time of winter or the month of December on modern calendars. Having traveled to the city of ancestral birth, the City of David or Bethlehem, Joseph and Mary were blessed by the birth of a Son even before Joseph had known his wife in the biblical sense. Both had been visited by angels telling of the coming of this son who was to be the annointed of God and would take away the sin of the world. Throughout the bible, which is recognized as historically correct in every account, prophets had prophesied the coming of this Saviour and now that prophesy was to be fulfilled. The facts are clear historically that the events that are recorded did take place and historically the story of the birth of Christ cannot be denied as truth.

It is not my intention to sway your belief in the spritual aspects of these events, only to show the historical significance of their existence. St Nicholas, however, did believe in the spiritual aspects and impact of these events and began to act according to the doctrine set forth by the fulfillment of these events. You see, the very existence of Jesus Christ and his ministry while he lived here on this earth was intended to change the hearts and minds of men so that the law of God could be fulfilled and mankind could have a better way of communing with God. St Nicholas subscribed entirely to this way of thinking and acting according to his beief.

St Nicholas was born in the third century A.D. in the Greek village of Patara on the southern coast of Turkey. Nicholas was born to wealthy parents who later died of an epidimic. Nicholas, being a devout Christian, sold all that he owned and began to use the proceeds of his wealth to help the poor. Nicholas was
