Is your bedroom the sanctuary that you crave, or a dumping ground for all of your clutter? Create a haven from the everyday world within the comfort of your own home. The master bedroom is the perfect spot for a retreat, a place to relax and unwind. A few easy ideas will make your bedroom a welcoming sanctuary after a long, stressful day.
Color is extremely important when determining the mood of a room. Since we want the master bedroom to be soothing and restful, choose a color palette that says this. The combination of "sand and surf" (blues and taupes) is pleasing and comforting. These colors draw upon your images of a relaxing beach vacation- what could be better for a bedroom? Soft pastels are also alluring in a bedroom. Lavender evokes the South of France feel and soft yellows warm any space. A neutral palette in earth tones will also relax and inspire. Let nature be your guide. Imagine a hammock swinging softly above the lush green grass and beneath the blue sky! Color is the first step in making your bedroom a sanctuary, and one that should be given careful consideration.
The next step in creating a spa-like sanctuary in your bedroom is to declutter, clear out and simplify. Now that you have a gorgeous color on the walls- do not clutter up the space with "stuff". By eliminating excess in this room, the space becomes serene and soothing. The nightstand should have only a light, alarm clock and perhaps your favorite book! Clutter free spaces will free up your mind and let you sleep more peacefully. Avoid electronics, if possible, and enjoy the room for its purpose- to sleep! Stash the television in an armoire', if you must have one in the bedroom. A little peace and quiet goes a long way!
Linens are extremely important in this space. Luxurious duvets and sheet sets add to the opulence and feel of the room. Splurge on excellent quality linens and your restful evenings will be the reward! Down comforters and 300+ thread count on sheets will add to that sanctuary you crave. The bed is the most important piece of furniture in the bedroom- splurge on how you "dress" it! With that said, do make up your bed everyday to enjoy the full impact of its style when you need it most- falling into it after an exhausting day!
This is your sanctuary and should be decorated simply for you. Accessorize with comfort in mind. Keep a cushy chair in the room for snuggling, if you are a book reader. Make sure there is a throw to keep your feet warm! A small tray to corral life's necessities will keep the clutter to a minimum. Water, clock, reading material should be within arm's reach- perhaps with a small vase of fresh flowers by it- just to bring a smile to your face! Hang pictures sparingly, leaving walls empty and serene. Window treatments can be either opulent and layered or bare- depending on your mood for the room. Warm candlelight or lighting and soft music adds to the flair and ambience.
Creating a sanctuary in your bedroom is simple and reaps huge rewards. Enjoy the serenity of your new spa-like resort, right in your own home. Try it tonight by simply turning off the television and enjoying the quiet of the space. Tomorrow, after a good night's sleep, you can start looking for that gorgeous color palette and linens!
