Rearview Mirror

Allison had to make her move soon. Each time she could feel the stolen red Buick LeSabre start to slow down, she looked for the perfect opportunity. She held her breath and quietly pressed the red square button to release her seatbelt as she fixed her gaze towards the front seat. Allison kept her focus on the rearview mirror where she could see the cold sadistic eyes of her abductor. That's all she could see in the mirror, his eyes lit up from the artificial glow of the dashboard. As long as he wasn't watching her, she was going to slowly and quietly let the lap belt slide back into its place between the stained velour seat cushions. Allison had to be ready to jump; it was her only way out of this mess. She was afraid of what might happen to her if she stayed in that car with Gary.

Further up ahead, Allison spotted an intersection. It looked like there might be a convenience store on one corner and a car lot on the opposite corner. It had to turn red soon, and then Gary would have to stop the car at the intersection. This would be her opportunity to escape. Allison had it all planned out in her mind. As soon as he stopped the car, she would throw the door open, jump out of the car and run for the convenience store. On second thought, maybe she should wait until the light turned green again and Gary was just beginning to pull away from the intersection, and then jump out of the car. That way, he wouldn't be able to jump out after her as quickly. Yes, that was a much better plan.

As the LeSabre neared the intersection, Allison watched as the light turned yellow. Relief set in. The light was going to turn red and the car was going to stop. Finally, the light did turn red and Allison prepared herself to make her move. Her left hand reached over to the door handle,
