Potpourri is a wonderful alternative to candles. There is no risk of fire and it can be tucked in many places in the home and moved about and replaced. You can find many ways to display or hide your potpourri, depending on your preferences.

• Stuffed Animals

Lavender potpourri is very helpful with relaxation and sleeping. Insert a zipper pouch in a stuffed animal and invite lavender into the bedroom. It's simple to open a seam. You can use a pencil holder as your pouch and just tack it in next to the zipper. The cost of the potpourri and a .50 cent pencil holder is an inexpensive holder.

• Starched String Balls

These little balls are fun to make and very versatile for decorating. It works best with home made spice potpourri. Take a small funnel and deposit your spices into a balloon. Blow up the balloon and tie it off. Now take colored cotton crochet thread, dip it in liquid starch and wrap the balloon. Wrap and let that layer dry and layering till you have the look you want. Slip a pin through and pop the balloon and there you have your potpourri ball.

• Tins

Tins are available in every size and shape. A simple small nail and hammer can be used to punch small holes in the tins so the scent can spread. Again these can go anywhere and they come in a number of decorated options. There seem to be no limits on choices.

• Holiday Decorations

Make a potpourri wreath. Christmas stockings can be filled with potpourri. Plastic Easter eggs can be cracked open and displayed with raffia and potpourri. You can find decorated paper cups for almost any occasion in the party aisle and they work well.

• Potpourri Pillows

Little decorator pillows can be made with not filling and a zipper. Then fill them with potpourri of you choice. When it's time to change just empty them and send them through the wash. They are fabulous.

• Bowls and Mugs

No use in throwing things away if you can find a use for them. If you have a mug with a crack, decoupage a little and make a potpourri holder. If there are little ones around the house I tuck a bit if netting around the inside so if it tips it may no all end up in the vacuum. Bowls are another option.

Really there is no end to the containers you can use. A little imagination goes a long way where this is concerned. Be sure you spread your scents out and check for allergies before you get all your decorating done. Great smell and happy decorating.
