Why racists still exist

by Daniel Creil

First of all we have to understand the main reasons why racism has appeared and what are the main reasons that make one to become a racist.

Racism exists because of the existence of different races. People live all over the world. We can find people everywhere: if it is in the north of Earth or if it is near the line of equator. But because of differences in climate and environment, people from different parts of the world differ from each other in physical characteristics like: color of skin, hair, eyes; the structure of bones and body; the timbre of voice; and so on.

The society developed and more options to change the environment of living were found: people started to move from one part of the world to the other part. Nowadays we see many Chinese people in the streets of New York, and Nigerians in the streets of London.

The main reason for the lack of ability to accept the different ones is: fear. We do not understand why this race that does not belong in this country or continent came here? He should not be living here! And in our unconscious mind we eliminate these people of other race from our society and the circle of trusted people. We also fear that by coming from a different part of the world and belonging to a different culture might merge our culture and traditions with theirs. Many merges like this already have happened and we constantly move towards a society where whole world will speak the same language and morals. Is it what we need? Is it something that we need? Where will it lead us? Will it bring more happiness or more sorrow into our lives?

As you can see, the more unanswered questions there will remain, the more difficult it will be for us to think and act wisely. And many of these questions remain unanswered because of their complexity and diversity. For example: "Is it better to merge two races or is it better to keep the borders of races? Will our next generations be stronger if they will be so-called `half-breed` children? Will our immune system be stronger against upcoming diseases if we make race merging?"

We often think that keeping a distance and being aware is a sign that describes a racist. "You don't want to marry me because I have black color of skin- you are a racist!". Or "You laughed at the shape of my lips- you are a racist!". "I did not get a job because more than a half of employees in this company are from other race than mine- they are racists!"

There are not so many racists left in this world, this is what I think. And their amount becomes smaller and smaller with every day. If we would like to know what does it mean to be a real racist, we would have to go back to the 16th century and see how people were exploited and treated because of their differences in race! Real racists beat you in the middle of the main street as soon as they see you. They don't speak with you, they don't invite you to job interview, they don't start a conversation with you and won't listen to you nor let you touch them! They will beat or kill you immediately: because you are different.

So do racists still exist? And why they exist? This article provided you with enough information and imitations of situations from the real life that might give you the answer you were looking for. But keep in mind, that being a different will always be a reason for awareness and fright, and there are other characteristics that makes us to differ, even if we come from the same race and have the same ethnical identity: age, gender, education, social level, language, physical and mental abilities and disabilities, and so on.
