One of the increasing trends in the modern day internet based business is home-based income by monetizing your website. This has opened up a new income stream for almost everyone who loves to write. All it takes is to launch a website or a blog, place advertisement content in it and ensure visitors. That's it! You don't have to invest anything if you don't want to.

Suppose you have a content-based website. It could be an independently hosted website or a blog, it does not matter. After you launch your website, you can place advertisement on your website. The advertisement could be through various channels. The most popular of them is Google Adsense. Google Adsense works on context sensitive advertisement and it posts advertisement related to the conent of your website. Each time a visitor clicks on the website and generates revenue for Google, you get a share of the revenue. For example, if your website is about online gaming, Google Adsense would show various ads that relate to online gaming. This increases the probability of the visitors actually clicking on the ads and generating revenue for you.

The second type of income stream is affiliate marketing. There are several product or service companies that launch affiliate programs and anyone buying their product or service through your website, generates revenue for you.

The third type of income stream is paid-blogging. There are a lot of people who would want you to write about their products and services. Each time you write about them, you get paid. However, the publishers always look for high-traffic websites and hence if your website has a low page rank its highly unlikely that you will get selected.

The key of Website based income is to draw visitors to your website. It is similar to drawing customers to your retail store. The more customers you draw, more the likelihood of them clicking on the advertisement and the more revenue you generate. A website with no visitors is similar to a store with no customers.

If you go to any search site and type the keywords "How to make money with your website" - you will probably get over a million results. Most of these would try to sell you some book or a membership to some site. Most of these would also post unreal stories of people making huge money using their membership or their books. However, in reality, none of that is true. The first and foremost thing that you need to work on is the popularity of your website. Google page rank or Alexa page rank offer you this kind of service. Google also offers Google Analytics which helps you find out the nature of people visiting your site. It also tells you the keywords people are using to visit your site. It is a great tool to study and increase the traffic of your website.

In summary, generating income from your website is easy but to generate any substantial amount of revenue and sustain it, requires serious efforts like any other business. But if you can do it, sky is the limit.
