Tips for storing Christmas decorations

If you have a lot of Christmas decorations, then storing them effectively will be an issue when it comes to packing up the tree. There are a few storage tips, which should be of assistance in the festive season.

First, using larger boxes seems obvious enough. Most will make use of boxes, but use bigger ones and you will be able to fit more decorations into them. Plastic boxes will be more durable, and so are more preferable to cardboard.

Keep the boxes that come with the decorations also. Do not bin these, for they are useful in their own right. This is especially the case for lights. For bobbles and such like, they will give them protection.

If you do not have the decoration boxes available, then there are alternatives. Bobbles can be fragile, and can be wrapped in bubble wrap, or just newspaper, to ensure they do not get chipped or broken. For lights, a plastic bag will probably be best, wrap them individually and place within.

For Christmas candles, wrapping them is also advisable. You can use socks, which would be suitable. Also, remember to find a cool storage area for them to prevent any wax melt.

Wreathes can be stored in wreath boxes. Alternatively, a large square box will do. The most important thing is to keep them dust free.

There are also some storage boxes, like ornament boxes. These are specifically for Christmas ornaments, and have individual sections, which allow separating and protecting the ornaments. Alternatively, using plastic cups for ornaments, in a plastic box with shredded paper around them will be similar.

Remember try to organize the decorations. This really involves separating them, with bobbles in one box, tinsel in another, and then lights perhaps. Afterwards, label the boxes appropriately, with their contents. Use a sticky label, and then add want contents are in the box. This will help to identify the boxes and decorations.

If you must, throw away older decorations that have become worn. For example, if the old Christmas lights have lost their bulbs for example. This will ensure better storage for the more valuable decorations.

A final tip, you might want to include your most prominent decorations in box one. Label it as such, and you can find them easily.

Ultimately, these tips should allow you to store a variety of Christmas decorations, both conveniently and securely. They will keep the decorations in good shape for the festive period. Have a merry Xmas!
