interest to a barren (and oft times depressing) winter landscape. The addition of colorful Christmas lights and ornaments can really make this plant "sing."
2. Canoe Birch- Betula papyrifera
Though possessing white trunks, these beautiful lithe trees offer black spots that contrast nicely against a pale background (snow).
3. Cherry Tree- "Japanese Flowering Cherry" Prunus x yedoensis
Nothing says happy and hopeful better than a fully blooming Cherry Tree!
4. Soapwort- Saponaria officinalis (or other cultivators)
You just can't kill this beautiful pink blossoming perennial plant!
5. Canna Lily- Canna x generalis
Available in a wide range of colors, these beautiful flowers bring forth a gorgeous flush of color.
6. Honeysuckle- Lonicera sempervirens
Scent is all important to well being; Honeysuckle really fits the bill for hardy glorious joyful essence!

* Plan a Spa Day
A pedicure, manicure and massage can be so relaxing (talking endorphins here); this could be the thing to help break through a depressed state of mind.
They don't want to be seen in public? Buy the supplies and do it yourselves! It is a great bonding experience, and fun too!
* Get crafty!
Creating a book with all the favorite things your lovie adores can be just awesome. Make sure to include the lyrics to songs and photographs of the things they enjoy. There are several affordable websites that offer self publishing; this can make the process all the more professional and well put together. Some even offer to publish (create) your movies and CDs as well!
* Home cooked meals
Good old-fashioned comfort foods are a great way to feel better. Large fluffy biscuits and a pile of country fried chicken, not much better than that!
Try making a picnic, complete with a red and white checkered tablecloth and a stint of easy, relaxing cloud watching!
Remember; "depressed people" are people . . . only, maybe a little more sensitive.
Make sure they know they're loved, appreciated, respected and understood; no one wants to feel like a burden or weirdo.
Merry Christmas!
