The bedroom should be a place of tranquility and relaxation away from the rest of the world. But many times, especially with hectic work schedules, kids, and social obligations, the bedroom can feel just as frenzied as the rest of the house. So what can you do to take this room from restless to restful? Here are a few tips on how to create serenity in your room, without breaking the bank.
Clear out the clutter
Just by cleaning the bedroom, you can really bring in a sense of calm. Cleanliness can help you feel in control and bring back order, which will help you to rest better than you would in messy surroundings. So by vacuuming and going through your closet to donate all your unwanted cloths, you can create much more restful surroundings.
Leave your work at the office
Even if you work at home, don't bring it in the bedroom. Your bedroom should be a safe haven away from everyday stressors so that you can become rested and rejuvenated for the next day. If you're worried about work, rest will become nearly impossible if your bed doubles as a desk; thus serving as a constant reminder of what needs to be accomplished. So even if you're bedroom is your office because of space limitations, try to keep the office area separate from the sleeping area.
Buy the best linens you can afford
Many people don't realize how much high thread count sheets can make a difference in sleep quality.
So buy the best that you can afford.
Sheets range in thread counts from 80-1000, so the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet and the finer the thread. In department stores, generally 320 is about as high as it gets, but higher count sheets can be found many times online from discount websites that sell overstock or discontinued items at reasonable prices.
Pay attention to color
Experts say that natural colors are the most relaxing. So colors like green, blue and brown are supposedly the most conducive to creating a restful atmosphere. But, while painting the walls is the best way to get the full effects of color, you don't have to head to the paint store to get the benefits. You can simply hang an interesting blanket in neutral colors on the wall as if it were art, or buy a few paintings to hang in order to reap the calming effects neutral colors can create.
So basically with a few minor adjustments, you can create serenity in your bedroom. You don't have to spend a fortune. Just keep the room clean, don't work where you sleep, make sure you have comfortable linens, and surround yourself with neutral colors you love.
