THE DARK HORSE
One night,
I was riding along a dark road,
When I came across a dark grove,
And watched where there dark rose.
There were no thorns on this dark rose
That galloped near the tree line of an opaque sky,
Down by the vacant field
Where a lake dried.
Time had died in this place
Where the ground shakes
And the wind wisps around
In round shapes.
There was no pale horse on this course;
No four horsemen swinging swords
With great force...
There was only
One,
Dark,
Horse!
And she tore
Through the land
Like the hand
Of the Lord.
Left nothing standing
In her path
But death,
Destruction,
And gore.
My heart broke when the sun rose
And shun upon
What was left of the grove.
No birds sang,
No flowers bloomed,
No words came to explain
This feeling of gloom.
I looked over towards where
The old oak loomed
That lay splintered on her side
Like a shattered egg's yoke.
I felt as if there was no hope
As I walked over towards what was left
Of this great tree.
Watched my feet get entangled
In her twisted branches
And draped leaves.
I wondered if anything
Could have survived this dark fate
As I felt the sun's rays
Tickling the skin of my face...
And then I realized
That I,
Had escaped!
