Out of the Fire
Prologue
Emily sat in the lounge with her family staring in disbelief at the television as they listened in silence to the Prime Minister make his speech.
"It is with the greatest regret that I stand before you today, to tell you that the reports are true. Yellowstone Park Volcano will erupt. We do not know when, or with what force. All I can tell you for certain is that the volcano will erupt and it will have a serious impact on the whole world. But I ask you all, please do not panic. Everything is under control. I will now hand over to volcanologist James Weatherby."
"Thank you Prime Minister. Yellowstone Park, California, America, sits upon a giant volcanic crater. If and when this volcano erupts it could potentially be hundreds of times worse than the 1980's eruption of Mount St Helens. The eruption has the ability to devastate the North Western States of America and cause untold chaos to the rest of the world. The eruption of ash and dust into the atmosphere will have the potential to block out the sun light and plunge the wolrd into darkness. The temperature will drop considerably. The lava from the volcano will destroy all of the area surrounding Yellowstone park and the fall out of the ash over America could be anything up to five feet thick in some areas. However this is the worst case scenario and we do not believe that the eruption will be of this magnitude although the area around Yellowstone will be evacuated to ensure minimum loss. The ash will circulate the world in a matter of days so we would advise people to stay in your homes and keep all doors and windows closed when the eruption occurs and stay in your homes for a day or so until the dust and ash settle as the small ash particles, if inhaled, can cause laceration of the lungs. Thank you."
The television flicked back to the anchor man who. Emily started in disbelief, how could a volcano on the other side of the world possibly effect her in her quite English town? It was to massive to comprehend.
"I had better ring the lab, their going to want to make a start on research into growing food fast. If this thing really erupts the food supply is going to reduce rapidly." Emily's father, a scientist in GM food production, got up and walked to the phone in the hall way.
Chapter 1 Six months later
"Emily, are you planning on going to school?!" Her mother called up the stairs.
"Yes, I'm coming," she replied, muttering under her breath, "I don't know what the point is though; hardly anybody
