from foreign oil. We can expect to see more electric cars go into production along with hydrogen fuel cells that are already in process.
It appears that private auto developers are having more success with energy efficiency without compromising gas mileage that GM, Ford, and Chyrsler. Guy Negres, a French citizen has developed a car that will get more than 100 miles to the gallon of gasoline using compressed air technology. The cars are scheduled for mass production in 2009.
The big three automakers are behind in the race for a safe and clean environment and continuing down the same path is part of the reason they're in trouble.
What's the future of the ethanol industry? The economy affects the ethanol industry from the lower supply side and the upper sales end. The emergence of cellulosic ethanol technology, or ethanol produced from products such as such as corn stalks, wood chips and switchgrass the industry might well mean lower costs to continue producing ethanol without compromising the food production.
Future cars will not all require combustible fuel and that will determine the demand for ethanol. It's not clear how the demand for ethanol will shift in the continuing quest for clean air and lower carbon emissions. The long term future for ethanol demand is uncertain.
