Poetry: Jesus

Why The Cross?

God turned and faced his only son,

pointed at creation and said "what have I done"?

His heart was broken for they'd disobeyed him

and just for a moment he was sorry he'd made them.

"I made them from my very breath,

Gave them life but they chose death.

Couldn't they see, the fruit held no power.

That cunning satan, he's only a liar!

The beautiful garden that I gave them

will never again be their safe haven.

It's going to be very hard for them now,

they'll earn their living by the sweat of their brow.

I'll place guards at this gate, summer, fall, spring and winter,

they must leave this beautiful place, never to re-enter.

He turned to Jesus and said "I have a plan.

I so love my creation man.

I can't let them go to hell you see,

satan will not have this victory.

I will send a Lamb to sacrifice,

without spot or blemish to suffice.

I hope they'll accept my gift of mercy and grace

in the one I send to take their place.

There will be no charge to them, it's free,

A gift of love, to them from me.

This sacrifice must be heavens' best,

One that stands out from all the rest".

Jesus said "yes Father, I know,

I understand and I want to go".

God said "Son, the price is too great to pay".

Jesus said "indeed but it must be this way.

I must go for Father you see,

I have to give them eternity.

We can't let satan have fallen man,

but he'll do it if there's any way he can".

God then turned to his only Son,

"they will reject you my precious one.

They will beat you and try to break your will".

"But by those stripes, they shall be healed"'.

"You'll be wounded Son, for their transgressions".

"Father, I will be their intercession"..

"You'll be bruised for their iniquities".

"My chastisement will be their peace".

"You'll be oppressed and afflicted, but can not cry,

as a Lamb brought before slaughter to die.

You'll go to prison though not one wrong you'll have done".

"Yes, this I know, but I must be the one".

"You won't even have an earthly home".

"But Father, in Heaven I leave my throne".

"You'll be born in a manger and die on a cross".

"Father I'll do this to save the lost".

"Oh but the agony and pain, Son you know"

"Yes, Father I do, but still I must go".

"Oh Son, how quickly mortal men forget".

"I know, but I must go to pay their debt".

"It's a debt my Son, you don't owe, can't you see"?

"Paid in full .........will be their gift from me".

"You'll be laid in a borrowed tomb,

you're leaving Heaven for such pain and gloom".

"I know Father, all you say is true,

but I love them just as you do".

With these words, Jesus removed his crown,

and in humility he laid it down.

Slowly he stepped from his Heavenly throne

to put on his robe made of flesh and of bone.

"Son, if you change your mind on the cross, just call to me,

I'll send ten thousands of angels to set you free.

You know Son, you don't have to stay on that cross".

"Father, if I don't, the whole world will be lost".

"Son, it's thorns; thorns is what your earthly crown is made of".

"Father, this I know and I'll endure it for love.

For when I go back to earth, the final battle to win,

I'll carry the blood washed saints with me then.

But for right now, this has to be, and Father I choose Calvary".

The Father turned his face away to cry,

as his only Son left Heaven to die.

As Jesus was leaving for the battle to be won,

his Father cried out "3 days, 3 days and then MY SON......".
