Scene: Daniel and Michelle Massey have just turned off Interstate 75 on to US 33. They are going toward Celina, Ohio, near Grand Lake, Saint Mary's. The snow started a half an hour ago and has increased in intensity ever since. It is two days before Christmas Eve.
Characters: Danny and Michelle Massey, Frank Smalley, State Trooper, Hitchhiker
Michelle: Danny, this is crazy! Take the next exit, please!
Danny: Okay Babe, okay. I thought we could make it.
(Danny squints through the windshield. The wipers are having a hard time keeping up with the snow. Michelle reaches over and wipes at the window. The heater is having a hard time keeping up also.)
Michelle: I haven't seen another car since the snow started Danny.
Danny: I know. There's a truck going south. (He points and as he does, the car begins to skid. Michelle screams as the car swings off the road and onto the shoulder.)
(The snow silently falls laying a thick blanket on the now deserted road. The rear of the car still sitting partially on the road. The taillights glare through the winter storm, which has fast become a blizzard. Danny and Michelle are mildly unconscious for a moment but begin to come out of it.)
Danny: (Once again coherent) Babe! Michelle! (He shakes her.)
Michelle: (Dazed) Yeah, okay, I'm okay. (She looks around.) Are we okay?
Danny: We skidded off the road honey. (He reaches for the stick shift, puts the car in reverse and begins to rock the car back and forth.) It won't budge. (He slaps the stick shift)
Michelle: Now what?
Danny: We sit tight until someone finds us. We have heat and plenty of gas if we're careful. We should be okay for a while. (He turns and looks at her.) Oh man, you hit your head! You're bleeding a little. (He pushes her hair back and wipes at a trickle of blood from her right eye.)
Michelle: It doesnt hurt. (Pointing at his nose.) You too Babe, right on the bridge of your nose. Does it hurt?
Danny: No, but we both could in shock-maybe, I feel okay.
Michelle: (Turning and looking behind her.) We can't stay here Danny. Someone is likely to come along and slam right into us.
Danny: Try your cell phone.
(Michelle reaches for her purse in the floor. She pulls her cell phone out and dials 911. She holds it up to Danny's ear, shaking her head.)
Danny: Okay, so we wait. Someone is bound to come along soon.
Michelle: I'm cold Danny.
(Danny pulls her close, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.)
Danny: I'll crack the window a little in case we fall asleep.
Michelle: I'm scared Danny.
Danny: Yeah,
