I have experienced visitations in my dreams, from loves ones who have passed. The way I knew it was more than just a dream was how it effects all of my senses. During a period of a year or so, after a friend of mine passed in her early 20s, I would dream of her and I playing in the front yard, as we did a lot while growing up. I could hear the ball bouncing, and the sounds of the birds singing. I could feel the cool air on my skin. It was these details that really made it all feel as though it were happening right then. Also, there seems to be a lot of eye contact with the person, and I see them very clearly. A lot of times when we dream we know who the people are in the dream, even if we can't see them clearly. In these visitation dreams, there is nothing left for doubt.
In the middle of our play time, I would suddenly stop, and look at her. She would look right into my eyes, and wait, because she knew I had something to say. I would ask her,
"You know you're dead right?" and she would smile, and answer, "Yes, but you are not ready for me to go yet." Then she would laugh, and start to play again. I had this dream over and over again, until one day, we were playing again, and she stopped. I looked at her, and she said, "I have to go now". I was worried, and I asked her if she would be coming back. She told me that she didn't think so, because I was ok now, and ready to accept that she was dead. That was the last time I had that dream.
My mother also passed, and I was really missing her. I talked out loud to her and told her to please, give me something to hold on to. I just really need to hear your voice, or see you. It wasn't long after those requests, I had a dream where I was in a very crowded room, and lots of my relatives were around. I was looking through the crowd, and suddenly saw the top of my mother's head. Her silver hair was an instant give away. Then before I knew it she was standing right in front of me, and she pulled me close and just hugged me so tight. She was smiling, and I could feel the heat from her cheek against my cheek. I could smell her perfume, and feel the heat from her body. It was the most real experience I've ever had in a dream. I felt so much better too, after having that dream. I knew she had come to my request, and hugged me.
When the world is quiet, and our minds are open and resting, I believe that is when they communicate the best with us. Although I do feel her near me, all the time.
