"That thou doest, doest quickly." The final words spoken at the last supper from Christ to Judas." Prophecy foretold that the lamb would be betrayed. The fulfillment of God's plan is not always pretty. We read in the Old Testament of wars, of entire races or villages being destroyed. Whether we aggree with what occured or not is inconequincial at best. God, in his wisdom determined that certain events must occur and take place in that certain things would transpire as a result of what happened. Enter Judas.
I believe that Judas had a character flaw of being tempted by money, being weak in stature where money was concerned. God, in his infinite wisdom knew this. He had to have this kind of person to accomplish a task that had to occur no matter how we may feel about it. If we examine Peter, he obviously would not work for this task. This is the guy who cut off an ear to try to protect Christ. He was obviously willing to die for Christ. But God knows all our faults and short coming, our weaknesses, our strengths. God uses all things for the glory and building of his kingdom. I have seen him at times use my strengths to his glory. Likewise, I have seen him use my weakness.
So Christ needed to be betrayed. Judas was to man for the job. So, if in fact all my supposing is correct, God knew if offered money, Judas would probably do anything. Did this mean God did not love him? No. He loves us all in spite of our short comings and weaknesses. Judas had obviously not yet conquered this particular weakness and God chose him to be the one to do this task. Did they offer the money to Peter or John? No. The results of that would not have achieved what God wanted, needed to happen to fulfill his divine plan. Christ had to die to later arise. Only through this chain of events could we have hope of arising to claim our home in heaven as joint heirs with Jesus! Have you ever though of saying thanks Judas?
Judas then was an key instrument in God fulfilling his plan. Not only for a single event, but that we might be able to be with God for eternity. Good or bad? Lets examine it. Judas did, though through a weakness, the will of God. I think it is most important to look at the "period" in which Judas died. Judas lived and died while we were still under the "Law." Grace came as a result of what happened "because" of Judases betrayal. Under the Law, heaven was not an option. You did Gods will and God blessed your crops, family, etc...... IF Judas had died under Grace, he would as we all will, be judged according to our works. In that case, Judas would have been judged on his sins no doubt bringing into the mix his apparent weakness for money. But Grace did not yet exist.
Without Judas, the door to heaven would remain closed. I for one am grateful for what Judas did. He did not write the plan, but merely took part. I am sure many will not aggree with my summation and I can deal with that. Christ had to be betrayed. In that context Judas was doing Gods will. How can he do Gods will without being in Gods will. And Finally, if he was in Gods will, how can he be judged as bad?
