If you really want to establish yourself as a good writer in Helium, want to be able to write at Marketplace premium titles and above all, want to make some good page-view earnings from Helium, it is very important that your articles get rated to the top. I have practically seen that most of my penny-earnings from page-views come only from my top 25% rated articles. Further, a good ranking in Helium also boosts our self confidence and image as a writer.
Here are some useful tips to get your articles rated to the top at Helium:
(1) Write on subjects you know reasonably well:
Embellishing the article with good facts and figures and providing confident and positively useful information will take your article up in the ranks. The article should have a reasonable depth and it should not skim the subject superficially. Wherever needed, do some research on the subject. Do not provide doubtful or unverified quotes and statistics.
(2) Write in an easy flowing style:
What you write should be read and understood in one go - without any need for re-reading any sentences or paragraphs. Scholarly writing with pomp using long winding sentences, where one can see a full-stop only after reading six or seven lines, must be shunned at all costs.
(3) Totally avoid e-mail and SMS language
This is one area where present day young writers face problems. Typing all your text in lower case, use of abbreviations (b4, LOL, ha-ha, tanq, ASAP, gonna, wanna etc), use of emoticons [:-)] etc should be totally avoided. Write in proper, dignified and correct language.
(4) Spell check:
Never type-in your text directly at the article Input screen at Helium. First write your article in a word processor and do a thorough spell-check before posting.
(5) Take care of grammar:
Every one of us is prone to slips in grammar once in a while. But that should not be an excuse for allowing them to go scot-free. Before posting your article, do a thorough check for any grammatical mistakes in your article. Also make sure that your punctuation is also perfect.
(6) Know good formatting basics:
Any good article written for Internet readership shall have the following basics in formatting:
- Use short paragraphs not more than 4 to 5 lines per paragraph.
- Use double spacing between paragraphs
- Write the article preferably with several sub-titles
- Use numbered lists and bullet lists
- Start with a good, brief and engaging opening paragraph and end with a brief conclusion.
(7) Judiciously use first person in moderation:
