I glance upon the suns last rays,
reaching, aching, dreaming of the passing day.
The light wanes and shadows grow,
into this hell must my spirit go.
Falling, clawing, screaming nigh,
darkness is death calling high.
An evil laugh mine ears do hear,
is this it, I shiver, shake rife with fear.
I lose my way, I lose the light,
fear is deepening, worse is my plight.
I try to hold on, I try to run,
fear has taken hold, my mind is done.
The darkness, it's grasping, hanging on,
the light is lost, its long till dawn.
Is it real, is it evil, is it hunting me tonight,
I can't see, I can't feel, I know I am losing this fight.
The darkness is thick, the air is still,
long ago have the birds ceased to trill.
My heartbeat fills my ears,
the silence adds to my mounting fears.
I run, I hide, but it will find me still,
I scream, I yell, but my voice is shrill.
A sharp crack and my breath is gone,
it was close, near the pond.
Another whisper sounds growing near,
I've got to run, death is here.
I grab, grapple and crawl,
Fear has taken it all.
A crack, a breath, a sudden pain,
then darkness, the bullet hit my brain.
