Our days were free, there was no school
We spent hours at the pool
We didn't go to bed til ten
June was full of promise then
In July we visited the lake
Mosquito bites would make us ache
We still had fun, the month was new
There was nothing now to make us blue
August came with its dire heat
Corn was ripening yellow and sweet
We ignored those back to school displays
And continued in our carefree ways
But before the sun tan left our skin
School was about to begin again
The lazy, hazy days were great
Now its back to bed at eight
Back to books and study nights
No more outdoor water fights
Summer's now a fading past
I knew those fun days couldn't last
