Poetry: Fate

There it was.

Starring at me.

Red, sagging eye lids that surround dark, yellow, twitching eyes.

A challenging stare.

Straight at me.

Without blinking.

A smirk.

The top of its lip revealing a couple of decayed teeth.

Still.

So still and terrifying.

There is no sound.

Silence.

Just that face.

Starring, still and without shame.

I stare back intensely.

Fighting against my fear of its disgust.

I will not back down without trying.

I can feel its wholeness absorbing into my face and down to my heart.

I remain in place and try not to cry.

A tear rolls down my cheek and that smirk just revealed a few more teeth.

The stillness is now broken.

I feel relieved yet persistent on starring it down.

Hours have gone by and we're still face to face.

Even closer now.

Our noses almost touching.

Starring.

Still with massive intensity.

My heart stops.

I feel the blood rush out of my head and I fall into its arms.

It devours me.

Ravenously.

It consumes me.

All of me.

It remains still.

Starring contently in silence.

Smirking.

Alone.
