Raising money for an animal shelter is as easy as raising money for anything else, you've just got to get creative and have fun with whatever you decide to do. Of course there are many basic fundraisers that people often turn to, like car washes and bake sales. Both of these events can work very well and bring the volunteers a lot of money for their cause. But if these sound to plain and boring for you; think about your interests, and how you can turn them into a charity fundraiser.
Do you own friendly farm animals? There is nothing more fun for kids than getting to be with animals up close and personal; and when parents see how much fun their child is having, how could they not chip in a few bucks to help homeless pets? That's why a charity petting zoo holds a lot of potential as a good money maker.
Are you a good artist? Do you often find visitors to your home admiring your paintings hung proudly around the house? Then this could be a great way for you to help needy animals. Art is a very admired market; people will spend a lot of paintings. Of course, you probably would not be able to sell a personal painting for hundreds of dollars, but you could definitely make a fair amount of cash. And it isn't just painting that catch a buyer's eye; people also love sculptures and figurines.
Something that could be really fun for animal lovers would be a Mutt Dog Show. People could pay a couple bucks to get into the event, and show off their own adopted mutts. What better way to advertise the need for more homes and money, especially at such a dire time.
Another option would be to get co workers and family members to donate money; pass a Charity Jar around the office and around at a family get together. Enlighten people at the desperate need for shelter funds; the desperate need for money to comfort their poor animals. And be sure to decorate the jar appropriately; a picture of a poor shelter dog or cat would work wonders! And be sure to throw in a couple dollars yourself!
Something that could be really good for a shelter and something they would probably be happy to participate in; would be a fun day that would allow people to spend the day with the needy shelter dogs. Let potential adopters have fun bathing, walking, training, and feeding the dogs. Be sure to have a noticeable spot where people can drop off their donations. This type of event may get some dogs adopted, and can bring in some much needed cash from those who aren't able to adopt.
