When people vote to abolish their freedoms which men and women bled and died to obtained and others bled and died to defend, they dishonor their memory and profane their sacrifice. I refuse to believe people would be so insane to vote to negate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Either they are being encouraged to support this madness by disgruntled groups who enjoy the freedoms bestowed upon them by the Constitution to want to have anarchy or there are people who believe in the rule of the few to oppress the many.
California has no right to negate the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. Dictators who want to control the people abolish the rights the citizens enjoy. There is an orderly way for states to change the Constitution which is by voting on amendments. If the citizens want to abolish the mechanisms used to bring about change, they may bring upon themselves social enslavement.
I have a friend who I call Crazy Dan because some of his ideas verge on madness. He too would like to scrap the Constitution and reconstruct it. He thinks many portions don't work in the 21st century. Some of his prescriptions for change would make the government a fascist government in which they grant freedoms to those they feel are worthy of freedoms.
Let's say I wanted to abolish the traffic laws. Many were enacted when the top speed of automobiles was 40. Others were adopted before we had freeways. If I wanted no speed limit on the highways because too many people are being pulled over by the police for speeding, what would the death toll be for my desire for freedom from speed limits? People may use the German autobaun and point out that there isn't carnage on the highways over there. But they would fail to point out the distractions American drivers have that would make driving at over 100 MPH deadly.
If the Constitution and Bill of Rights were scrapped, what would be in their place? Would it be petty laws that are made by small-minded people who want to control the lives of individuals? Would there be a minimum of laws which means people would do what is right in their minds? Are there groups that want to impose their will upon most people because the Constitution and Bill of Rights doesn't allow them to do that? We need to see who is sponsoring this proposition and find out the real reasons why they want to negate the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The Bolsheviks were originally people disgruntled with the Czar who sought to change the laws of Russia. Their actions brought about the deaths of tens of millions of Russians and enslaved the nation and its people for decades. A cold war that cost trillions of dollars is their legacy.
The Nazis were originally people disgruntled with the weak Weimar Republic who wanted to change the laws of Germany. Millions died because of them and WW II cost the world trillions of dollars. The Nazi Party is associated with evil. But 80 years ago, the Nazi Party was considered the hope for Germany.
The people of California must prevent passage of Proposition 8. For the sake of future generations and an orderly society this act of insanity must be voted down by a substantial majority.
