Should the papers be allowed to invade the privacy of celebrities

I find it amusing that the very people that strive so hard to become famous through their talents immediately become adverse to being in the limelight. What exactly did they expect to get from fame if not attention? They have no problem placing their self in the media for the purpose of promoting a movie, book or whatever they're working on...but as soon as they screw up and get caught with their pants down, they screech about their lack of privacy. Do they not see the irony?

I suppose I'm old school in the opinion of "you make your bed...lay in it". Celebrities expect to have loyal fans but not want those fans to be curious about where they shop, what they eat, or who they're sleeping with? Get Real! Even us mere mortals have people we don't like or know, privy to that same information. The difference is that no one is going to shell out the money for a paper to read where Joe the plumber buys his toilet paper!

Can these same celebrities that disdain the "gossip rags" HONESTLY say they've never read one?

I'm not entirely unsympathetic to a celebrities plight...it probably IS irritating to constantly be on guard and concerned about what may end up in the public eye, but lets face it...that's why they make MULTI millions for a few months work of filming. More than an average person can hope to make in their entire lifetime, and they want us common people to be respectful and give them privacy? Sure thing. As soon as there's no more film trailers, no more 300 hundred dollar concert tickets (that you wait in line for hours to have the privilege to purchase), no more clothing lines or perfumes.

Instead of being annoyed by the intrusion, celebrities should revel in the knowledge that they're sought after. Bask in it! Do they not realize who butters their bread? The fans may not be the ones personally signing the checks, but the studios sure wouldn't pay their hefty asking prices were they not assured of a major return on the investment. Hence all the suddenly friendly stars appearing to do their promo dance before the media just in time for a premier.

I do have to admit though, the family and friends of celebrities should be left alone. They didn't work towards, or ask for fame, so really shouldn't be expected to perform for our amusement. The ones that did however...those loveable, fascinating creatures we can't get enough of... stop being newsworthy and we won't give a darn what you do!
