Skin care 101

Do you ever wonder how supermodels and actresses keep their skin looking so gorgeously flawless? While they have the benefit of having the best makeup artists close at their sides, you too can look fresh from the pages of GLAMOUR for less money than you think. While being a millionaire helps, having great skin has more to do with taking the time to properly care for your face and making good choices than it does with having a fat pocketbook.

For starters, beauty comes from within, so don't just focus on what you put on your skin, but also what you put in your body. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day, more if you are working out. It's no coincidence that you rarely see stars without their Evian bottles. Water is definitely one of the keys to great skin. And it's free!

Your face doesn't just need to be quenched it also needs to be fed. And unlike your hormones, it isn't craving a Big Mac. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (organic if possible). They provide a wealth of vitamins and minerals that are essential for healthy skin. Remember, your skin is your largest organ just because it is on the outside doesn't mean it isn't a direct reflection of what you put inside.

You've heard it before, but I'll say it again. Never underestimate the importance of a good night's rest. Lack of sleep can definitely take a toll on your skin, making it look dull and lifeless and creating dark, puffy circles under your eyes. So make sure to get your full eight hours, especially the night before a special event or occasion. Also, how much you sleep isn't the only thing that matters how you sleep can also affect your skin. Sleeping on your stomach or side with your face smashed into your pillow can cause fluid to pool under your skin, which can cause you to look puffy in the morning. It can also create wrinkles around your eye area over time from your skin being stretched and pulled, especially if you tend to always sleep on one particular side.

Unfortunately, for most of us having great skin doesn't come without a little help from the cosmetics and beauty industry. Thankfully, you can find great products that don't break the bank. Experiment and find a regimin that works for you. Ideally, this would include a cleanser, toner and moisturizer trio. Don't underestimate the importance of a moisturizer, even if you don't think you need it yet. As early as the age of 25 it is a good idea to start using a moisturizer that contains an anti-wrinkle agent and it is always a good idea to invest in a crme that contains sunscreen. I recommend Purpose brand cleanser and daily moisturizer.

Finally, if you do have a little extra cash and feel like pampering yourself, a trip to the spa at least a few times a year is always a good idea. Treat yourself to a facial once in awhile or a steam bath to open pores and sweat out all of the impurities.
