The Siberian Husky is a fast, endurance runner who like to dig, climb and explore. Because of this, sometimes he can't help but cause his owner grief when he escapes. Bred over a hunded years ago in Russia to be a member of a sled-dog team, he thrives the companionship of other dogs. He is beautiful, intelligent and sometimes mischievous. You could lose yourself in his bright eyes. But if he isn't given enough opportunites to exercise and expend his energy, his excitable personality may become too challenging for some owners. It is then that Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue (ToTTSHR) is needed. They take in these hard-working, dedicated, loving dogs and place them more suitable homes.
Living in foster homes in the northeast, most of the wonderful dogs in the care of this amazing organization come from other shelters where they are running out of time. Some are rescued just before they would otherwise be euthanatized. Others are surrendered by their owners. Once they are in the care of the Rescue, these lucky Huskies have another chance at like and successful re-homing. They recieve veterinary care and meet with potential adopters at "meet and greet" events and other public humane education events
How does the Rescue raise funds for its mission? Volunteers run community events where they teach the public about the characterisitics of the dogs and allow potential adopters to meet them.
This organization helps Huskies find permanent, loving homes. It also offers a wonderful website that includes games for children and links to other websites where Husky owners can go to find help if they are experiencing any behavioral issues with their pets. My children enjoyed the games of trivia, hangman and word searches on their site. By playing these games, potential families can learn more about the Husky. For example, one of the trivia games points out that twice a year, Huskies experience a heavy shed, and if the hair bothers you, perhaps the Husky is not the dog for you!
My kids also enjoyed reading about the successful adoptions of over a dozen individual Huskies. This section of the website makes the dedication of this Rescue clear. We hear about the special relationship between a rescued dog and the Husky taht his owner's had before, as well as the growing bond between a family's child and the rescued Husky that preceded her. Photos of the dogs and their new familes are indeed heartwarming. Families who adopt Huskies this way are amazed by the care and follow-up that they recieve from the volunteers.Write your article here
