Since wildflowers are usually local plants, they can become a cheap decoration to lavish all over your ceremony and reception area. You get all the beauty of real flowers without the insane floral bill.

The first thing you need to do for a wildflower themed wedding is find a source for your wildflowers. Depending on the area and your planning time, it may be possible to simply pick the flowers straight from nature. This is a free and mostly easy way to get exactly what you want.

Storing all those fresh flowers can be a problem, though. This is why people often dry wildflowers, it makes them easier to store for a big event. To dry flowers, you need to tie small bunches together at the stem. Usually, you need to hang the flower upside down so that the petals dry in the correct direction. If the petals need to face down, hang the flowers right side up. For the best results, try to dry the flowers in a cool and dark area. Not too cool and not pitch black, just not somewhere that's very hot and very bright.

If you want fresh flowers, and really don't want to do the picking or growing yourself, don't worry. Wildflowers are always cheaper than exotic or specialized flowers, so you still have a good chance of going to a florist and leaving with a reasonable bill.

Remember to choose your wildflowers carefully. You need to pay attention to color, obviously, so that the flowers match your wedding colors. You also need to pay attention to pollen count. A huge mass of high pollen flowers will make even someone without allergies go into sneezing fits. Last, you need to check the longevity and strength of the flowers. You don't want to choose something that looses it's petals with the slightest breeze.

You also need to remember to pick wildflowers that are native to your general area. Different flowers grow in different places at different times. There are no general wildflowers that will automatically be cheap for you to buy. If you live in Canada and the wildflower you pick is only wild in Egypt, then you're going to have a hell of a bill to pay.
