Good questions to ask parents

I am young, but I have already thought about some good questions to ask my parents, especially when I am on lengthy car or plane trips and I need something to talk about with them. I usually ask them about their marriage, including how they first met, how long they dated each other, and what their wedding day was like.

I also ask them often what they thought when i, their first child, was born. I also ask them advice on almost everything. I usually ask them about important issues that regard defending my faith. I also ask them about personal likes and dislikes. I've talked with my dad about everything from his first jobs growing up to his current job as a commercial airline pilot. I also ask my mom questions about her previous jobs and her expectations and hopes for not only me, but also my three sisters.

I usually talk with my mom about love, dating, andmarriage. I ask my dad any theological or spiritual questions I have. The most important questions to ask your parents before you get married are these questions; "Do you see this person and me growing old together and always loving each other?" , "Does this other person exemplify godly qualities and honorable character traits?" "Are we compatible?" These and many more questions will be key in your courtship process. I recommend the books, "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" and "Boy Meets Girl" for the best advice on these important issues. They each provide qualitative advice on the topics of dating vs. courtship, purity before marriage, and Biblical counsel before and after marriage. Though I still have a few years to go, I am already preparing my heart and mind for the season of courtship and eventual marriage.

One's parents can be a tremendous asset in this life-changing experience. While these books are very helpful, always remember to seek the wisdom of your parents who have been through exactly what you are going through. The long-term benefits are extremely helpful. Now, some other good questions to ask parents, which do not concern love and marriage, are ones that concern another crucial aspect of life-parenting.

Children are born to almost everyone in the world, so parenting is almost inevitable for most couples. Even now, I am already thinking of my discipline methods, schooling, and spiritual education for my future, God-willing, children. Ask your parents about how they came up with the methods they used with you and your siblings, why they chose the schools you went to, and, if you are religious, why they decided to bring you up in the church you attended while young. These basic, but very important questions can help any young adult navigate the sea before them, waiting for him or her to embark on its adventurous waters.
