Poetry: Love unrequited

Unrequited

Why is it I can never tell you how I feel?
Never have you realize my feelings are real
I've loved you for so long
Why does it feel so wrong?
You're everything I want but can never acquire
Every time I see you I stop to admire
Your eyes and your smile
Losing myself in them for a while
You are so sweet and kind
I can't stand it I'm losing my mind
Why can't I just tell you how I feel?

Why can't I break this cursed seal?
Release my heart and start anew
With your love so pure and true

I'll tell you why our love can never be
Because as I see you, you can never see me
There are some rejections I simply cannot take
There are some promises you cannot make
For although you love me and I know you do
Your love is different than my love for you
As I lay down to sleep every night
And my mind and heart continue their fight
I realize that even with all my might
Your love is left unrequited and beyond my sight
What is best for you is painful to me
What's best for me simply cannot be
But this has been my choice from the start
To preserve our friendship and protect my heart
Who knows, maybe one day you will see in me
Someone that can give you all you need
Make you think and make you smile
Make your everyday worth while
Maybe one day you will see in me
A love I thought could never be
