If your passion for the plight of animals and their rescue has always been a deep set desire of yours, add your voice to the thousands of others who share your efforts. Have you ever wondered just what it takes to be an advocate of the cause? Here are some of the processes you will have to take into consideration before you open your shelter, or start a rescue organization.
The Wild Life Protection Act and the Animal Protection rules.
These are two important aspects of starting up a rescue organization. These license fees vary from state to state and are based on the animal holding capacities your facility can handle. These agencies will need pertinent information regarding addresses, locations, and telephone numbers at your place of business and will involve making sure that any facility is equipped with water, heat, food, and if adequately, ventilated and good sanitary implementations are in place.
US Department of Labor, Small Business Association, IRS.
Most of adoption and rescue agencies are 501(c) (3) registered, which means they are tax-exempt organizations. Check with the US Department of Labor, and the Small Business Association, they may help you acquire information on loans. The IRS will supply you with the forms to apply for the tax-free exemption status.
Secretary of the State.
Next you need to call your local Secretary of the State's office and request incorporation papers. A lawyer will be helpful in explaining to you the governing laws of your state and the correct way to file the paperwork needed for such affiliations. At this time, you will have chosen your company name to obtain your tax-exempt ID.
Hands On Experience.
Be a tactile learner; volunteer your time while you are rounding up dedicated helpers of your own. Talk to the manager, participate in the care of the animals, and get knowledge on what it takes to run a shelter twenty-four hours a day. Ask what local food banks, and charities make regular donations. Find out the startup and overhead cost for running a rescue organization.
Inquire about other networking of organizations that will help in the placement of overflow of their animals, and the guidelines on the transportation of animals across state lines. This is important to know, a long with any contact numbers, for branches of you organization that are out of state.
Avenues to Revenues.
Start fund raising. Church bazaars, multi-family yard sales, and car washes and out right request for donations using flyers explaining your worthy cause
