Competition.

It is possible to earn money from competition, though having tried many, the rewards are very limited, simply because demand is so high. If aiming for earnings from contests, write to contests which are of particular interest to you, and on sites where membership is expected. On a site without membership, your entry sits among millions of others and has a much less likely chance to win.

One of the bugbears I found with poetry writing was that even though sites promised the earth, most seemed to be in it for the money. What they do is to depend upon your vanity to sell you books, and although you get that wonderful email telling you that you have won, there is no prize money and it is a mistake to expect this from vanity sites. If you want to make money from poetry, join in more exclusive sites, and look carefully at guidelines. The pickings are sparse, although this is possible as a part time pleasure adventure rather than a speculation of income potential.

Click sites.

Many people swear by the income they get from click sites, though my experience of this is that it is relatively mindless and not enjoyable. If you have a lot of time on-line and time to spare, perhaps it is worth it, though to me, I found the experience limited.

Translation work.

If you want to make money from translation beware. There any sites which exploit those seeking employment who pay minimal wages per jobs on tight deadlines. This is exploitation of the worst kind, and if considering on-line translation and have the qualifications it takes to product first class translation, look deeper than the surface. There are sites which offer decent rates, though not many which stand out on the prime pages of search engine research. Dig deeply, and you find there are some treasures there which recognize your qualifications and are willing to pay a decent rate.

Read the small print and never be afraid to ask questions about what the page rate is, or word count payments are.

Recreation.

One of the sad facts with society today is that it exploits the little man. Whenever people are poor, and in this financial climate, there are many poor people, the media exploit them by using hope as a carrot to tempt them into gambling and bingo sites. The advertisements on the television promise reward. These sites can make you small amounts of money, though the trick is to realize how
