Testimonies: Dilemmas of online dating

I am looking at the Oprah Winfrey Show and her show today is very educational to help people who register with online dating and work at home sites. However, what I am hearing on the show today are alot of very disappointing stories because it was reported that in Lagos, Nigeria there are men with the title of one four nine men who work in cafes scamming people in the United States. Just like I thought a lot of scammers use models pictures and post them on dating websites pretending to be the person in the picture. A lady appeared on the show today who lives in the states fell for a scam, and dated a man who said that he was living in Nigeria operating an orphanage because he was adopted and had no other living family members. Apparently the lady did not see all the red flags because she started sending this man money. The lady was diagnosised with cancer, and the man proposed to her and agreed to come to the states to marry her. They dated online close to one year, I think if I am correct. However, the man and woman had known each other for quite sometime for the man to gain her trust. They agreed to meet at the airport, and the man did not show up and she waited on him for 6 hours. Over the course of their relationship the man scammed the lady out of $50,000.00 dollars in cash and credit cards.

Today there was another lady on the show sent an email about her winning the lottery in Nigeria. Instructions were sent to her to follow and she followed them sending $4000.00 dollars back to the lottery to pay fees. Her bank cashed the check and gave her the cash and by the time the bank caught this fraud, the lady was out of $8000.00.

Today it was reported on Oprah that a lot of people fall for scams because they are looking for something for nothing. Personally, I do not understand how a person can believe they inherited an inheritance in Nigeria when you know you do not have relatives in Nigeria. Furthermore, a man who does not work, does not eat, so what some people need to do is pull their self up by their coat tail, and put on their boots and tie their shoe laces up tight.

I am still watchingthe show and just like I thought scammers try to lure you off the dating sites so remember it is not safe to give out your email address and add people to IM. There is no way that I would agree to date a man online in another country or living in the states because I am like the show me state Missouri.

Online dating is full of mirages so if you believe everything that you read and hear you are setting yourself up for failure and to be hurt. When you meet a person online, I suggest that you make them prove they are real because there are too many scammers online looking for mulgos.

Here recently, I met a Nigerian man online and he shared with me his story about his family farm problems, so I know eventually things will lead to something else. However, I have conveyed to him, I am telling you now I cannot help you.
