Usually if you are looking for ways to make your face look thin, you have a round face. Join the club. A lot of people don't know what they should and should not do when it comes to their hair. The truth is that regardless of the size or shape of your face, you can do any length and almost any style; you just have to create it in a way that flatters.
Do yourself a favour and stop looking for the style you want in magazines; it seems like there are no round faces in there almost ever. Decide what you want; short, long, lots of volume, or a little volume, and then find a hairdresser that you trust.
Long hair
If you have hair that is past your shoulders then you have long hair. When styling long hair with a round face, try to avoid going with the pin straight look; this is not a good look. Your hair will cling to your face and actually make your face look bigger. Make sure to add some volume to your hair if you are going to straighten it and wear it down. Tame, loose curls almost always look nice with a round face and long hair. Find a fat curling iron and play with different curled looks at home. If your hair is already curly this can still work for you. Using a curling iron and taming gel can help loosen the curls and make your hair more controllable and elegant looking. If you have a large forehead then a full bang usually works really nice even though you are sporting long hair.
Short Hair
People with a round face tend to try to avoid short hair altogether and I completely understand; I was in the same boat. I recently volunteered to be completely made over by a hair and makeup stylist and now my hair barely comes to my chin. I have a round face and am a little overweight but I lost about three pounds in my face just by how my hair was cut. Although short-haired looks can be trickier to find for a round face, it isn't impossible. Find a hairdresser that you trust and has an understanding different face types. Try a shorter look and you may be pleasantly surprised. When your hair is short, you can go straight, but try and curve the bottoms in toward your face. This creates a nice illusion as people follow the line that the hair makes which cuts in and makes your face look thinner. Another option is to go a little longer in the front for a sophisticated look.
