Fine hair is definitely a challenge to style but not the end of the world. The nice thing about fine hair is that flat ironing only takes ten to twenty minutes and you can play with that.
Products
Although a lot of them may seem useless, sometimes it's just a matter of finding the product that works for you. Try different products or see what your hairdresser recommends. Depending on how fine your hair is, you made need something special from the salon. Always ask for tips on how to keep your particular style light with a lot of volume.
Layers
Layers are always a great way to make thin, fine hair look fuller. Don't go too crazy though. If you are one of those people whose hair tends to sit flat to their head it may be because the top strands are too long and therefore too heavy and can't give any volume. Try some shorter layers on the top that sit right around the ear line. It'll make the hair lighter and fuller. Shorter styles with some layering tend to sit better on people with fine hair than longer haired looks. Short doesn't necessarily have to mean fat faced. There are several layering styles out there that can actually make the face look thinner, even thought it is a short cut. Don't be afraid of trying something out of your norm clearly that norm isn't working if you are still having the issue of flat, limp looking hair.
Styling
When dealing with hair that never seems to have any volume, try blow-drying your hair with your head upside down. When you do this, you are drying the hair in a way that the roots are standing up. When you flip your head back over and style with a brush, always pull the hair away from the face at a ninety-degree angle to assist with fuller hair. When you have blow dried your hair, give it a chance to cool. Hair is most manageable when it is warm, but in order for a look to stay, it needs a bit of time to cool. One you have dried your hair upside-down, turn the dryer off and keep your head over. Give a good shake and then bring your head up. Do not be overwhelmed with the amount of body it may have. That can be controlled with a brush and a little more heat. Find a volumizing mousse or other product that works for your hair and put that in before you start styling
Bangs
Bangs are usually a great idea on someone with thinner hair. You can do a full bang or a side bang. To decide which would be better for you, check out http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip183.htm and look at the different bangs and styles suggested for the different face shapes that there are.
And just remember that you don't know until you try it. Sometimes you just have to figure out what doesn't work to find out what does work. It will always grow back.
