Actually, the best computer for writers is the human mind, but if we are to talk about technological reasons a PC will do just fine. Everyone has their own opinions about what is better: Mac or PC? If you have your own computer and your not searching for a new one, then you've already answered your own question. If you are searching around, this might help you decide which way you want to go.

The differences. Both are computers with essentially the same parts. Macs now have Intel processors, an up that PCs have had for awhile. So what makes them different? Looks. Macs have a cleaner look to them, this includes their operating system. Yes, they look pretty. Their operating system was made for people who didn't want to know anything about a computer, just that it looks nice and runs well. If you are a programmer, there is no way you'll be interested in a Mac. And for those programmers out there, I here you. You are writers, too! A different type of writer, but a writer none the less. If you aren't a programmer, why would you spend close $1,200 for an iMac or $1,000 on a MacBook? PCs in general are cheaper. Instead of purchasing a Macbook, buy a Dell laptop for $500. It's half the price and you can type on it just as easily. If you want to spend money on looks, go ahead. I won't stop you. And if anything should happen to you wonderful Mac, you'll have to set an appointment with someone at the Genius Bar. Some of those problems, if they occurred on a PC, are easy to fix. But if you have a Mac that you would like to upgrade ram on, get ready to dish out some dough.

What do PCs bring to the table? The convenience of being able to customize your computer use. "But they crash!" So do Macs. The reason a computer crashes, PC or Mac, is because you are putting strain on your machine. It might overheat because you forgot to clean it. Maybe you opened too many programs on your machine at once. Will this affect you, as a writer? Maybe, but probably not as much as you think. Yes, PCs get viruses, but you can avoid them if you install the proper software. If these problems really bother you, maybe you should stick with your eye candy Mac.

The truth is, that it doesn't matter which computer you choose unless you let it. As writers, we are obligated to ourselves to make our writing experiences as pleasant as possible. It shouldn't be a struggle. If you have only used Macs in your life, don't switch over just because this article tells you to. Do it cause you want to.
