is totally unrealistic, may be the ultimate personal delusion and a virtual guarantee of failure.
"Why bother to fool thyself, if not the masses? " may be applicable. The masses; society as a whole are led to act as one. The mass media demonstrates this perfect flaw daily, all we have to do is observe that characteristic of mindlessness, and hopefully learn from it.
Details remaining unmentioned, and words left unspoken, just as unacceptable compromise, can destroy relationships, allies, friendships, and also sink unsinkable ships. Friends walk away leaving unsettled issues to boil and fester. Does that scenario sound familiar? The reason for that undesirable state is that society, increasingly, seems to be imitating the pattern displayed and promoted by the media, and unbelievably accepts that practice as standard, appropriate life behavior and correct societal protocol.
Seemingly now convinced that television is real life to be emulated, many individuals succumb to the pop cultural sitcom or drama structure where, in 22 minutes of drama decorated with commercial messages, episodic life is played out to completion. With minimal effort and a modicum of thought, it is obvious to most viewers that solutions for our heros and heroines would be found easily at hand if reason and complete dialogue were applied to their dilemma.
Instead, artificial hurt is displayed, and the spoken word, logic, and compromise are purposefully and carefully ignored, withheld, and at times even specifically hidden, slavishly acting out the manufactured drama of crisis. The result is the inevitable elevation of tension; a predictable disharmony takes place, and dire consequences follow, but are usually solved to an "apple pie and Mom" happy conclusion just in time for the last commercial.
Sadly, the resolution to problems in real life are not quite as simple, and that remains the major flaw in the premise of reality and life itself. In real life, wisdom in real dialogue is required, reason must be applicable at all times, and compromise must be built on logic, truth and honesty. Gentle and genuine compromise must be reached to optimize the function of any personal existence within society.
Life is not a television show, so yes, there is an urgent need for reason, dialogue and compromise, unless your total and wonderful illusion also suggests you ignore real life and just stay tuned for scenes from next week's show.
