Life is not a Television Show
Let us turn off the distraction of television, close our eyes, allow our minds to wander, and momentarily hypothesize that civilization does not have an urgent need for reason, dialogue, or compromise.
While in that somewhat rare delusional and utopian moment, let us then peaceably ask ourselves if we are always happy, if our relationships are everlasting, and whether society is functioning reasonably. Do individuals always get along perfectly? Perhaps it is a good idea to also question whether there is world peace, or any prospect thereof ? Is civilization free of strife? Is the global community functioning as it is supposed to do?
Those questions in total may characterize or touch a reasonable cross-section of human societal problems that could be precipitated by the prime question : " Is everything within humanity perfect?"
The eye-opening answer is, "Clearly not!" It is apparent an urgent need for reason, dialogue and compromise does exist, and that need is firmly demonstrated daily. Turn the televison set back on and watch.
In the media or not, actions and events based or justified outside of truth and logic are actions without reason . A dialogue without sincerity is not worth listening to, or engaging in, since truth is absent. Similarly, a compromise that is agreed upon, but not genuinely believed in, is unworthy of the name.
All have one major flaw, and a glaring shortcoming. They infer a lack of honesty, integrity, truth, and lack of good intent. That defective status may be achieved, willfully or not, often without the realization by the participants, eventually causing even worse problems.
Increasingly, in contemporary society, there is then a substantial and urgent need for improved reason, extensive dialogue and logical, beneficial and acceptable compromise.
It is simple to make an error in life that may result in a long-term difficulty, misunderstanding, distrust, or emotional hurt, antagonism, or pain. Being unaware of one's subconscious feelings or being unwilling to state and admit reality can result in dialogue without sincerity.
Compromise that is unsatisfactory at the root source, no matter how pleasantly reached, or why agreed to in desperation, remains flawed compromise that may ultimately precipitate an urgent need and pressure for re-opening, re-examination and further divisive argument.
