The Philly Cheese steak Sandwich, which may or may not have made its debut or have been invented somewhere in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, is one sandwich among hundreds, if not maybe thousands, of combinations of sandwiches around the world. I personally have had the Philly Cheese steak at many different restaurants including one near Penn State University, if I remember correctly. What I do remember is that I was told this was the restaurant which had the best Philly around, and again if I remember correctly, it was the worst tasting sandwich I ever had. Even the fries were bad!
People have a taste for something and they are going to eat it. If it is the Philly Cheese steak, then people are going to eat it. Those who say that it is as good as it is, then for them it is probably the best sandwich and it is the only sandwich they order. Like for me, I order 99.9 percent of the time, the foot long meatball sub with jalapenos and banana peppers and a hint of Southwest Sauce on it (served on a wheat hoagie bread) and Parmesan cheese. This is the sandwich of my choice and usually it is the only fast food classified sandwich that I consider to be as good as it gets.
Back to the Philly Cheese steak. This is a sandwich that I have tried several times and can rate its good taste or bad taste to the type of meat that is being used. If it is 100 percent steak and not the cheap variety, frozen thin meat, then it might be good. Also, it could depend on how it is cut. If it is shredded steak and not the tough chewy kind, then again it might be a good sandwich.
Then, we have to look at the type of cheese that is being used. I have to say that my favorite cheese is Swiss Cheese. Second to that is pepper jack cheese. Either of these would help the Philly Cheese steak. Maybe real Parmesan cheese would be good if you like Italian food.
Next, you would have to choose the fillers for the sandwich. Onions, green peppers, jalapeno peppers, banana peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and maybe a special sauce of some kind might make the Philly Cheese steak a good sandwich.
Last, the bread is going to be a deciding factor for me. I have completely cut out white bread, unless of course, I have no choice in what is available. Most of the time, when I eat a hamburger for instance, I only eat one side of the bun or the bread, and it is usually the bottom piece that the hamburger sits on. With the Philly Cheese steaks that I have eaten in the past, I have usually eaten the filler and left the bread to be disposed of elsewhere.
Again, to make any sandwich good and to say that it is as good as it is will depend on how it is made and how the individual wants it made. This author has to say that he has yet to have a great Philly and it is not the sandwich of choice.
