There are those who believe that homosexuals can find true love within their lifestyle and then can remain monogamous, however they do not have the support of a single study or statistic. According to the conclusion of a report issued by the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy (IMAPP), "the number of same-sex marriages, after an initial burst, appears to [decrease] with each year the legal option is available." [Ed Vitagliano, "Do Homosexuals really want to get married?" Afa Journal, August 2006. American Family Association.

The proof that homosexuals will not remain in a monogamous relationship is overwhelming, proving that their desire for their marriages to be legalized is much more a political stunt aimed at convincing others their lifestyle is normal, rather than an actual attempt for legalized commitment to monogamy. In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to legalize same-sex marriage, and since then only 6.3% of their homosexuals have gotten married. Considering that only 2.1% of the nation is homosexual, that is an extremely small amount of people. In addition, it has been found that same-sex unions are generally short-lived. In Holland, same-sex unions only last an average of 18 months. It was also found that each union had an average of eight separate sex partners during the relationship, which is hardly "monogamous". In research done by IMAPP and Focus on the Family, the statistics are as follows:
Governments where same-sex marriage is legalized:
Percentage of Gays Joined:
Netherlands 6.3% Belgium 14.7% Massachusetts 10.2%
Governments where civil unions are legal:
Percentage of Gays Joined:
France 7.38% Germany 0.59% New Zealand 0.47% Vermont 16% Connecticut 1.17%
Governments where domestic partnerships are legal:
Percentage of Gays joined:
New Jersey 3.75% California 9.4% Tasmania (Australia) 0.97%
All told, only 6.45% of gays take advantage of legal unions in these places listed. That means there are only 6 out of every 100 homosexuals who actually desire to attempt a monogamous relationship in some form for an extended amount of time. Of course, even these "monogamous" relationships have been found to be anything but. The evidence is out there.
