Whether you are creative or not, you can make your own prom dress. There a few ways to go about it. You just have to look at your options and choose. You may even make a dress better than store bought, because you have the option to make thedress exactly the way you want it. You can fit it to yourself almost perfectly, too.

Look at as many pictures of prom dresses and non-prom dresses. Narrow down to your five favorite. Cut the pictures out and choose your favorite dress, plus one other. Go to the closest fabric store, such as JO-Ann's Fabrics and Crafts. Take your pictures with you, flip through their pattern books and find dresses that closely match your cut out pictures.

Carefully read the pattern of the dress your serious about making. If everything seems to be okay, and you feel somewhat comfortable about what your reading then it is time to choose fabric. The back of the pattern has an indicator for you size. Locate your size, and that tells you how much fabric you will need.

Pick out a fabric that is recommended by the package. If you need help ask any of the women in the fabric store. Find the employee that knows the most about sewing from patterns. If your okay, before you get the fabric cut, get all the notions. This way you will find out if there is any items that the store does not carry. This will eliminate your wasting time and money on something you may be unable to finish.

Once you have notions and fabric, you can go home and get started. Don't forget push pins. Lay out the fabric and pin your already cut-out pattern to the fabric. Check to make sure the fabric is in the right direction for the cut. You are going to need access to a sewing machine. Now it is possible to hand sew the dresses. You will just need a whole lot of time to sew it in.

The only other alternative to buying patterns making a prom dress is to take an already good fitting dress. Put the dress on a gigantic piece of paper. This way you can draw a pattern from the dress. Just make sure you leave plenty of extra room to correct it for an tracing error.

If you can read, you can make a dress. The patterns, these days, are made so simple to follow. Make sure you read all of the supplies that you will need ,so you don't have to go out once you get started. Have faith in yourself, and ask many questions if you have too. Sewing is a bonding experience. So go ahead bond. Just follow the steps that the writers of the patterns write dowm. Have fun making your prom dress and save money in the process.
