The perfect guy ... doesn't exist

by Shaz Slaughter

For as long as I can remember being interested in the opposite sex I can remember women saying "all men are dogs". For a while I thought to my self "we can't all be dogs, I'm not a dog."

My logic progressed, into the statement "maybe you like dogs or maybe you should stop looking for dogs" or something to that effect. I reflect back I realize that I was wrong... men are dogs! All of us are dogs. It doesn't matter Black, White, Hispanic if he has an X and a Y chromosome... he's a dog. However one must realize not all dogs are the same. You have different dogs for different purposes.

For example you have sporting dogs, lap dogs, hunting dogs, working dogs, guard dogs so on and so forth, all of which have a use and a function. What I'm getting at is you wouldn't use a Chihuahua
or a Pug to herd sheep. So with that said, ladies identify the type of dog you need and / or want in your life. Instead of getting any mutt off the street that chews up your furniture and shoes, pees on the carpet and chasing after him whenever he breaks free and gets out of the yard, find a good dependable dog.

Of course one could ask, can you house train a mutt... possibly, but first you have to consider the following 1. Is he actually a mutt (of course you don't want to think so, but...) 2. What are your plans for him? 3. How much time, energy and effort are you WILLING to spend on house training? 4. How much time, energy and effort DO YOU HAVE to spend house training? 5. Is he actually your dog (did the neighbor let him out/did he escape, if so he's probably going home sooner or later). I think you get the idea.

Sure guard dogs just want to protect the house and the yard, but they can be single minded and even kind of boring, which is their function. Lap dogs are generally pretty and cute other than that they don't do much, that's why ANYONE can come up to them and walk off with them. The list goes on and on. Sporting dogs are usually strong, good looking and serve a variety of needs and wants, but more often than not they feel the need to spread them self's around and tend to stray.

So remember evaluate what exactly it is you want / need and go from there. In closing, many of you may be thinking well I could just get a dog for each individual expectation, if you're not already. Personally if you're not hurting anyone (emotionally counts too) and you can sleep at night, more power to you. However if you truly go through or need so many different "dogs".....maybe the problem is you!
