Root Canals & Other Methods of Excavation
You
having been in the dark land of no milk and no honey;
of people passing children as they draw final breaths
and wait in eternal numbness to be carried away
and committed to the earth;
You
with your lonely seed suckling, unable to comprehend
that you need to answer that question about loaves of bread,
packs of cigarettes,
short trips of the permanent type by easy-way-out spouses;
You
with your half-open doors, the hinges dulled and rusted
by your truth-drenched hesitancy drawn from environmental
learning and steeped in unquestioned tradition;
You
with your insatiable well of love-me-ness convinced of itself
by large numbers assigned to virile bodies with firm members
which push inside you but never quite fill you up;
You are loved against your will.
