The dating scene can often be difficult enough for women. All too often, they find themselves faced with a painfully shy guy, and they have to find ways to understand the signs the guy is not interested.

When women are younger, many tend to gravitate toward the loud and boisterous "ladies man." However, after a number of bad experiences, mature women start looking for men who exhibit characteristics that reflect a more caring nature. Thankfully for the shy guy, he has most of those. Unfortunately, it's very difficult for a woman to tell the difference between shy and passive, or between quiet and indecisive.

===Weed Out the Bad Guy===

The shy guy who you're dating could be intriguing, considerate, and a fantastic listener. He keeps his mouth closed, but hangs on every word you utter. What more could a woman ask for? There are a few tips you can follow to see what kind of guy he really is.

First, suggest doing something where he could become the center of attention. Say you'd like to visit a karaoke bar, and see if his eyes widen with terror. This would indicate that his shyness is more timidity than modesty. Secondly, tell him you're very thirsty. If he simply nods and doesn't get up to get you another drink, then he's passive. You'll end up spending the rest of your relationship taking care of him, rather than the other way around. Finally, go ahead and make the first move. Be bold with a shy guy and watch how he reacts. A "good" guy, who is simply quiet and modest, will respond in kind and you'll be pleasantly surprised. A passive guy will remain boring and lifeless. Once you've provided him with a few opportunities to prove himself and he's still sitting there like a lifeless pile of bricks, thank him for a pleasant night and move on.
