This Surah starts with focusing our attention on the spiritual power of the Quran. Allah tells us that this book was sent to us so that it might take us out of Darkness into Light. From the Darkness of ignorance, of superstitions, of fear, of uncertainty and of oppression towards the light of knowledge, of awareness and empowerment.
I have myself experienced that Quran inspires in you a confidence in the purpose of your existence. From the depression of thinking myself as useless and inadequate, it has brought me into the confidence of knowing that Allah has not created even a single atom without a purpose so how could I be here without a place specially designed for me.
All we need to do is to hold the Quran, with love and sincerity and let its true light guide us. Allah then makes you see what special gifts he has given you with which you can serve His people. And when you make a commitment of using your potentials for the betterment of people and stop living a selfish life which serves only yourself , then Allah infuses in you a special kind of confidence and happiness and fulfillment which no other thing in world can ever give you. Just feel the radiance of these opening words:
"Alif Lam Ra. (This is) a Book which We have revealed to you that you may bring forth men, by their Lord's permission from utter darkness into light to the way of the Mighty, the Praised One,"{14:1}
and then the warning to those who deny the value of Quran and its message:
"Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever Is in the earth; and woe to the unbelievers on account of the severe torment",{14:2}
But how can they deny such a wonderful blessing which is for their own good. Allah says it's because they love their worldly life so much that they are afraid to lose its gains. Therefore you hear people saying things like, "I want to study the Quran but my family will be neglected" or "my job is too important for me" and some simply say that "I am not ready yet". Not realizing that not only will they have to answer Allah for their own indifference to His message but they will also have to pay for the negative influence they have on other people who look towards them as role models. That is why Allah says:
"those who love this world's life more than the hereafter, and turn away(other people) from Allah's path and desire to make it crooked; these are the ones in a great error".{14:3}
We need to understand here that Allah created the world and its various blessings for our
