Great houseplants that can't be killed

the stalks. To keep the stems from leaning over, fill the container with rocks. Other than that, all that lucky bamboo needs is water. Keep the container filled with water and remember to refresh the water occasionally. Since lucky bamboo can tolerate very little light, it can be grown anywhere, even in bathrooms.

If you want something that looks very exotic and tropical, consider Adeniums or Desert Roses. Although they do require bright light, they are very much like bromeliads in that they have very shallow roots. They will tolerate lengthy periods without water. Be sure to keep them planted in soil that drains well. African violet soil mix is much better than regular potting soil because it has all sorts of amendments added into it.

Spider plants are also easy to grow. They make great hanging plants, survive in most light conditions and only need to be watered when the soil is dry. A healthy spider plant will produce other spider plants that will grow from long stems extending from the main plant. They can be rooted in water or planted directly in dirt.

Wandering Jew is another easy to grow vine. It can adapt to most light conditions. Check the soil about once a week and water it when it gets dry. It is easily propagated by cuttings. Simply remove the leaves from the bottom part of the stem and place the cutting in a clear glass of water. Before long, you will have a rooted plant.

Sansiviera or Mother in Law's Tongue as it is commonly known, is very easy to grow. Give them bright or filtered light. They too will tolerate neglectful watering. They do not grow especially fast, so if you want a big bushy plant, this isn't going to happen for quite some time with

Epiphyllums or orchid cacti are very easy to grow. Since they are cacti, they have very low water needs. Unlike many types of cacti, they prefer filtered light and don't grow well in bright light. As long as they are planted in soil that drains well, they will thrive with little attention.

In general, the plants that are least likely to die are those that tolerate much neglect. They are plants that are once given the proper light conditions, good draining soil and a large enough pot will grow well without any care. You can water them when you remember, go away for a week or two and come back and find them alive and thriving.

Most of these plants are quite inexpensive and easy to find. A few are a bit more exotic and are not as easy to find and when you do find them, they will not be cheap. Nonetheless, I think that they are so beautiful, so unusual and so special that they are worth the extra money. Increase your collection by taking cuttings of plants that are easy to grow from cuttings. Plants are known to calm people and to purify their homes. With the availability of so many easy to grow plants as well as plants that require little care, anyone can have a house full of beautiful plants even if they don't have a green thumb!
