AN APPLE A DAY
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
It's common knowledge, so they say
Perhaps it's true, and the point is moot
But I have my doubts about this fruit.
It doesn't keep the dentist away
A chiropractor's not held at bay
Although some think the word is out
I continue to have my doubts
Perhaps it's time to think it through
To reexamine, for a moment or two
If we take a good look, hard and fast
We'll see the apple's nefarious past
It started with that bad news snake
From whom an apple Eve did take
If she had not thus so strayed
In the garden she could have stayed
Once Snow White did the apple taste
It very nearly laid her waste
Lucky for her, a prince came flying
Or perhaps she would still lay there dying
Poor Atlanta ran her famous race
She stopped for apples and lost her pace
If she had not lost, and broke her vow
She wouldn't be a lion now
When William Tell shot the apple red
It could have cost his poor son's head
These stories should all give one pause
To consider the trouble an apple can cause
The virtues of apples are a little too ripe
I think it's just publicity hype
So when you're hungry, go and root
For some other kind of fruit
